Dubai has an awful lot of beach clubs, and most of them are either on the Jumeirah shoreline or at Dubai Marina or on the Palm. So, our team was pretty excited to change things up a little when they heard about Sands Beach Club.
Unlike the majority of beach clubs, Sands is part of the Centara Mirage resort complex on the Dubai Islands. That means it’s near Deira and not that far from the border of Dubai and Sharjah (if you want to visit Sharjah, it’s best to go there first before the beach club, as the emirate is entirely dry and it’s a criminal offence to drink there or to have consumed alcohol).
So, our team packed their things, drafted their review forms, grabbed the company credit card and jumped in a taxi to spend an arduous day lounging around and sipping cocktails at Sands Beach Club, Dubai, and this is what they learned.
Introduction – Getting To Sands Beach Club, Dubai @ Centara Mirage

Getting to Dubai is one of the least challenging things most people will ever have to do. The emirate used its oil wealth wisely and opted to become first an international travel hub and then a destination in its own right.
Dubai Airport is served by flights from almost every part of the world, and if you can’t fly direct, it shouldn’t require more than a single bounce to get there.
The airport is huge and supports millions of travellers each year, who would once have passed through on their way somewhere else in the world, but now often stop to enjoy what the emirate has to offer.
Once you’re in Dubai, if you’re staying in Deira or nearby Sharjah, this is a very easy beach club to reach, and it won’t take long at all to get there. If you’re coming from Jumeirah, though (where most tourists stay), watch out for the rush hour traffic; it can be really rough. Allow a lot of additional travel time if you have to face it.
Then, on arrival at the resort, you will be offered valet parking services if you drove, or you can be dropped off at the front door if you came in a cab.

What’s Available At Sands Beach Club, Dubai @ Centara Mirage?
Sands Beach Club is a bit complicated. It’s actually just a restaurant, and if you want to enjoy the pool and beach areas at this resort, you can, but you will need to arrange additional bookings at Waves Beach Bar or pay for pool access when you arrive.
That means that while there is a pool at Sands, it’s not included in the Sands experience, though you do get a nice view of the water (both the beach and pool) while you dine.
Our Detailed Review Of Sands Beach Club, Dubai @ Centara Mirage

We adopt a standardised approach for assessing every beach club to promote just consideration for owners, management, and staff, and to provide reviews in a uniform format that makes comparing venues seamless.
The assessment process is detailed as follows:
- A team is tasked with reviewing the venue.
- Each member must visit the beach club, with the option to visit independently and on varying days.
- During their visit, every reviewer completes a scorecard, scoring the club from 1 (least exemplary) to 5 (most exemplary) in predefined categories, while also recording their experiences.
- After all team members have submitted their scorecards, they meet to discuss their observations and determine final scores for each category.
- A selected team member then composes the review, capturing the team’s discussions and final scores, before it is shared on our website.
Reservation and Booking Process
Normally, in this section of a Dubai Beach Club review, we complain about the overreliance on SevenRooms, a booking platform that is not very well suited to running a beach club.
However, we can’t this time because Sands Beach Club has no booking system at all. You can use the hotel’s contact details to arrange a reservation, but in 2025, we feel like they ought to be offering something better.
This is a hugely expensive property with a massive level of investment; we can’t fathom why making it easy for guests to hand you their money is such a challenge in Dubai.
Ambience and Atmosphere

Sands is a restaurant, and that means it has a restaurant-style atmosphere; it’s a place where people go with people that they already know and enjoy their company.
That’s fine, but if you’re looking for a place where you can make social connections and there’s a bit of a buzz going on, then Sands really isn’t it.
That’s why the term “beach club” matters, as you’ll see in this review. Sands is good at being a restaurant, but it’s not good at being a beach club.
Location And Accessibility
Deira is not the tourism hotspot of Dubai. It’s where most of the locals live; it has fewer expats and is just a bit out of the way.
It’s not that hard to get to, but the rush hour traffic makes a trip over to this side of the emirate much less appealing than it could be.
Though if you’re staying in Sharjah, Deira is a great option if you want to get away from the UAE’s most conservative emirate and let your hair down a little.
However, once you get to Sands, it’s an attractive spot in a unique location compared to some of the other beach clubs in Dubai.
Aesthetic And Design

It’s a pleasant restaurant, but it’s not a beach club, and we doubt that you’ll be busting out your camera and trying to grab a thousand Instagram shots while you’re at Sands.
You will probably get snapping over dinner when the food turns up, but that’s about it. That doesn’t mean that Sands is unattractive, far from it, just that it doesn’t have the wow factor of the beach clubs that we normally review.
We’ve all been to restaurants everywhere in the world, whereas beach clubs are meant to be an amazing break from day-to-day life.
Staff Friendliness and Professionalism (Service Standard)

Sands Beach Club is part of a 5-star hotel, and in Dubai, that’s a near guarantee of incredible service, as the emirate has some of the most flexible immigration laws on the planet, and that means they draw from a global talent pool.
Take the best of the best and expose them to a hotel group’s training department, and you get amazing service, and that’s exactly what you get at Sands Beach Club.
You will be made to feel extremely welcome, and the staff know the menu well, along with the local area.
If you need something and it’s within their power to get it done, you can be certain that the staff here will do it.
Service Speed and Efficiency
We felt that the service at this restaurant was first-rate when it came to speed and efficiency, too. The servers are not pushy and in your way, but they are always there when you need them.
The food and drinks orders come very quickly when they’ve been taken too.
Food Quality and Variety

We thought that the food menu wasn’t as large as at many beach clubs, but then, it’s a restaurant, and you’d expect things to be a little more focused at a restaurant.
The food that they do serve is very good, and the portions are generous. We found that everything looked great on the plate, and we’d be very happy to come back here and eat again if we were passing through.
This is really what we’d expected, given that Sands is more restaurant than “beach club”, if the food was bad, it would have very little reason to exist.
Beverage Selection and Creativity
The drinks list in this restaurant is very good, and there’s no doubt that you won’t get bored in the time you spend in Sands Beach Club.
However, because it’s not designed for spending a whole day and it’s not meant to be used as a launching platform for a million influencer careers, the drinks here are nice, but they aren’t presented the way that they are in most beach clubs.
Overall, we weren’t disappointed with the drink selection, and the cocktails are more than strong enough (they always are in Dubai in our experience), but it’s just nothing to get overly excited about either.
Cleanliness and Hygiene

We expect exceptional levels of cleanliness in Dubai, and by and large, that’s exactly what we get. Sands Beach Club is no exception to this rule; the restaurant and toilets are sparkling clean.
Comfort of Seating and Lounging Areas
This is a restaurant, and that means you’re going to be sitting at tables. There’s no daybed to sprawl out on or luxury cabana with comfy seating to exploit.
So, you’ll be fine when you’re eating lunch, but we doubt that anyone would want to spend a whole day in these seats, as they’re not designed for that.
Music and Entertainment
It’s a restaurant, and that means an absence of anything but quiet background music as an accompaniment to your meal.
That’s fine, we don’t expect restaurants to become a party zone, but it also means that we can’t really award any real marks in this category either.
It’s one of the downsides of treating every establishment the same when they are “beach clubs”, restaurants don’t make good beach clubs.
Seasonality

It’s Dubai, and there’s no real seasonality in the emirate. It’s hot and sunny all year round, and given that Sands is a covered restaurant, even if there was a huge change in the weather, it wouldn’t matter very much when it came to spending time at this place.
You won’t even need to bring your sunscreen if you’re coming here just to eat, as you’ll be in the shade while you enjoy your food.
Pricing and Value for Money
It’s a restaurant in Dubai, which means that you will get decent quality food and drinks, guaranteed and excellent service levels.
However, it’s also expensive in Dubai, and while Sands is not that expensive when compared to other beach clubs in Dubai, it is much more expensive than many of the other beach club destinations around the world.
So, on that basis, we have to discount the marking scheme in this category.
Beach Access and Quality

It’s a restaurant. You can see the beach from Sands, but a table doesn’t come with the right to access the beach. If you want to use the beach, you can, but you’ll need to arrange that with the resort.
It’s an attractive beach, though, and will look good in the background of any photos that you take inside Sands Beach Club.
Sustainability Practices
The hotel group itself has sustainability targets, which is nice. But these targets are very much generic sustainability blurb, and they don’t offer individual reporting by property or facility.
In practice, that means the Sands Beach Club is probably doing something (as instructed by head office at any given time) to be more sustainable, but it’s impossible for us to measure this or to see real progress.
It’s a good start, but it’s also not enough to score well in this category. We expect businesses to take their environment and community seriously in 2025.
Exclusive Perks for Guests
This is a hotel restaurant. You get a seat and the utensils you need to eat and drink with, but there’s nothing more available than that.
To be fair, we don’t really expect more than that in a restaurant, but we have to compare this service to the beach clubs of the island, and they almost all offer more perks than just the ability to sit down.
Safety and Security
This is Dubai, and it has a world-class reputation for safety and security. And it won’t come as a surprise to learn that they take security seriously at Sands Beach Club.
Cars entering the resort area are subject to security checks, and people entering the resort may also be spot checked.
There is enough hotel security staff present to ensure that any trouble that might occur (very little in Dubai as a whole, especially in restaurants) won’t be allowed to get out of hand.
Event Hosting Capabilities
They can happily host people for restaurant-style events at Sands Beach Club, but that’s it. This isn’t a beach club; it doesn’t have many areas, it has one.
Now, in fairness, the hotel has more facilities than this restaurant and can host other events in those places. But this is a review of the beach club, not the resort.
Consistency of Experience

Our review team (and they are supported by online reviews in this matter) felt that this was a very consistent restaurant experience.
It isn’t a beach club, so the experience is much easier for the property to define and maintain to a standard.
However, it’s pretty hard to evolve a restaurant experience, too; there’s no sign of that constant evolution of great performance that you find at the best beach clubs.
Additional Amenities and Facilities
This is a restaurant, and it has all the amenities and facilities that you can reasonably expect from a restaurant.
It’s also part of a 5-star resort complex, and there are a lot of additional amenities provided by the resort, which you can access for a fee even if you aren’t a resort guest.
If you need anything the resort can’t provide, you can always find it within a short drive; this is Dubai after all.
Summary
We enjoyed our time at Sands Beach Club, though we didn’t stay all day, because as a restaurant, it’s not the sort of place where you can spend 12 hours without becoming annoyed and annoying everyone all around you.
It probably would be better if they hadn’t called it a “beach club” but had gone with a different description. But it was nice for our review team to get out to the Dubai Islands, so nobody’s sorry that they went.
Overall, the food, drink and service are very good and you will have a nice time at Sands Beach Club. But it’s not exceptional enough to be worth going a long way out of your way for, either.
Dubai’s beach club scene and incredible dining scene have so many great options that to justify a long drive, something needs to be utterly spectacular, and Sands isn’t quite.
FAQs
Can You Go Swimming At Sands Beach Club, Dubai @ Centara Mirage?

No, you can’t swim at Sands Beach Club, but you can swim at the Centara Mirage. You will need to arrange a day pass for their pool if you want to do this.
One of the good things about keeping the pool separate from the beach club is that it tends to be much less busy than it would be at a beach club, and you can easily swim all day long in this pool.
However, it is more for swimming than it is for drinking and relaxing in, and you won’t find groups of people throwing back cocktails in the water here.
If you do pay for a day pass to access the pool at Sands Beach Club, you will be provided with a towel and locker.

Sands Beach Club is part of the Centara Mirage Beach Resort, which is a joint venture by the giant UAE-based developer Nakheel and the Centara Hotels and Resorts chain.
We should note that Nakheel is a fully owned subsidiary of Dubai Holding, which means that it is a for-profit government-owned entity. That means when you visit Sands Beach Club, you are a customer of the government.
Final Thoughts On The Review Of Sands Beach Club, Dubai @ Centara Mirage

Sands Beach Club is a very nice restaurant, though it’s not really a “beach club” in the way that we would normally use the term. The lack of additional facilities, even though they are present in the hotel, is the reason for that.
However, given that similar facilities are a bit thin on the ground in Deira, it’s good to have a nice seaside dining option in this area and not everyone can say they’ve been to the Dubai Islands.
Overall, if we were passing through, we’d be very happy to visit Sands Beach Club again, but we wouldn’t endure the traffic from the other side of the emirate just for this place; there are simply too many other equally good or even better options closer to Jumeirah.
