Locca Sea House, Bali Review: Family Fun, But Be Careful With The Events

Thinking of visiting Locca Sea House in Bali? You must read our review before you do.

Locca Sea House in Bali is in the Jimbaran area. This south coast beach town is best known for its seafood restaurants and open-air fresh market rather than for its beach clubs.

But is Locca Sea House an exception to that rule? Is there a reason to head to Jimbaran and spend a whole day on the daybeds by the pool with a drink in hand, before visiting one of the beach BBQs in the evening?

Never ones to let a challenge go unanswered, our review team sped into action, grabbing their swimming trunks and notepads to ensure that you got this in-depth review of Locca Sea House.

Introduction – Getting To Locca Sea House

The first challenge with getting to Locca Sea House is, of course, getting to the beautiful, balmy island of Bali in the Indian Ocean.

It’s a short flight away from most of the rest of Southeast Asia and from the majority of Australia, too, but there’s a long journey ahead of you if you’re coming from Europe or America.

We would encourage you to check out the flights anyway, Bali is a much lower-cost (without compromising on quality) destination than Ibiza or Tulum. That means you can often save the costs of your flights if you spend a week or two on the island.

Or you could put the cost savings towards a nice business class upgrade for the flight, and then, the long haul won’t feel anywhere near as long, will it?

Once you’re on the island, Jimbaran is very near the airport and a short drive from most of the other main beach towns. So, you shouldn’t have too far to travel to get to this beach club.

There is parking at Locca Sea House, but most people will arrive in a ride-share (Grab or Gojek – the two main apps in Bali) and they can drop you off at the main entrance to this beach club.

Opening Hours: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily except for Neypi (a Balinese festival which is celebrated on a single day in either March or April each year)

What’s Available At Locca Sea House?

There are several pool areas, including a VIP seating area, which has its own private pool access. There are restaurant and bar facilities throughout the venue.

The Locca Sea House is a family-friendly venue, and it has an onsite kids’ club which is available to all beach club guests.

With the exception of certain days, when visiting artists play in this beach club, this is not a party-oriented place, and there’s not much in the way of entertainment.

We would encourage you to read this review in full if you’re considering attending an event at Locca Sea House, as there are some specific concerns regarding the events at this club.

Our Detailed Review Of Locca Sea House

We utilise a consistent process to evaluate every beach club, ensuring fair treatment for owners, management, and staff, and presenting reviews in a standardised format that makes comparing venues seamless.

The evaluation process is structured as follows:

A team is appointed to assess the venue.

  • Each member is required to visit the beach club, with the option to visit independently and on different days.
  • During their visit, every reviewer completes a scorecard, scoring the club from 1 (least adequate) to 5 (most adequate) in predefined categories, while also documenting their observations.
  • After all team members have completed their visits and scorecards, they convene to discuss their experiences and finalise scores for each category.
  • A chosen team member then composes the review, incorporating the team’s discussions and final scores, before it is posted on our website.

Reservation and Booking Process

You can book at Locca Sea House, but that’s about the best thing we can say about it, and as many of our readers will know, this is about to descend into a rant about booking online.

It’s the year 2025, and there is absolutely no reason that we can think of for a beach club of any stature to be using WhatsApp rather than a booking function on their website.

This kind of functionality is cheap and easy to install. It helps customers know what they are booking and makes it easy to understand the terms and conditions of booking, too.

Best of all, booking applications take deposits and give the beach club a reason to hold your seat long beyond a tiny grace window that is extended to those who don’t pay something in advance.

Rating:

Ambience and Atmosphere

This is a family-friendly beach club with some real emphasis on family. That gives it a very pleasant vibe of happy children playing with each other in excitement, as adults relax with food and drinks.

It reminds us of family holidays when we were young, and there’s something quite delightful about it.

While this is a money-making business, it also doesn’t feel like a nickel and dime operation and with no entrance fee and no minimum spend, it’s a stress-free day out for parents in Bali.

No, it doesn’t have the energy of somewhere like FINNS or Atlas, but then, we don’t think we’d take our kids to those kinds of beach clubs anyway (even if they let kids in).

Rating:

Location And Accessibility

Jimbaran is not a terrible place to be on the island. It’s relatively easy to get to and from, though the actual journey times may be hugely inflated due to Bali’s infamous traffic.

Because they won’t hold your reservations for long at Locca Sea House, we’d advise setting off much earlier than the map suggests you might need to leave.

The beach in this part of Jimbaran is quite attractive, and you’re nicely positioned for a great sunset view, which is always important in Bali.

However, Jimbaran isn’t as packed with other things to do and see as more popular beach towns like Canggu and Seminyak are.

Rating:

Aesthetic And Design

Locca Sea House is a pleasantly attractive venue with a great pool area and a nice view of the beach and ocean.

We like the stylised gardens and local architectural touches that help to bring together the design so that it feels themed throughout the venue.

Rating:

Staff Friendliness and Professionalism (Service Standard)

The staff here are very much typical Balinese hospitality staff, and that means they are friendly, warm and professional.

They haven’t got quite the polish of the big-name beach clubs and 5-star hotels, but you’re not going to find them lacking in any respect.

Rating:

Service Speed and Efficiency

We found the service, as a whole, to be very punctual and efficient and certainly orders were taken and delivered pretty quickly.

However, some of the group were left waiting for a while when they asked for the final bill, which is always a bad way to end the day.

Rating:

Food Quality and Variety

The team almost universally felt that the food here was “pub grub” standards. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it also didn’t live up to the price tags on it.

Now, for the kids, this may well be a selling point as that old school semi-blandness is often popular with the young ones, but for adults, you may wish that there was just a bit more oomph in the culinary arts here.

The presentation of the dishes was simple but effective.

Rating:

Beverage Selection and Creativity

We found the drink selection a little limited at Locca Sea House, which may reflect its focus on families rather than as a bar by the sea.

Our team also thought that the drinks were mainly just OK, with their presentation being quite average, and the strength of alcohol also being average.

Rating:

Cleanliness and Hygiene

We felt that Locca Sea House had impeccable standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and the pool areas were extremely clean and well-maintained, which is very important when children are playing in them.

We also found the toilets, showers and changing rooms to be in excellent condition, which is very important as it gives you confidence in the rest of the facility.

Rating:

Comfort of Seating and Lounging Areas

We thought the seating in most of the Locca Sea House was OK. It wasn’t the most comfortable furniture we’ve ever been on, but nor was it uncomfortable.

We did feel that if we spent more than a couple of hours in one place, we’d be a little achy and need to move around, but that’s not the end of the world.

Rating:

Music and Entertainment

But doesn’t Locca Sea House host events, you ask? Well, yes, it does, and that’s the problem. Locca has held events in the past where it has used an agent to collect ticket sales.

Then, when the artist has failed to materialise, they blame the agent, and nobody sees their money ever again.

Now, while this doesn’t happen at every event that Locca hosts, that it has happened at all and that the club doesn’t see the issue with people’s money vanishing in connection with their brand is quite worrying.

So, while we believe that if they have entertainment while you’re there, it will be good enough, we also wouldn’t recommend booking any event here in advance, unless you’re prepared to lose your cash.

Rating:

Seasonality

This is Bali, and that means that seasonality is not really much of an issue. In this part of the tropics, they have two seasons: a dry season and a wet season, and it’s hot and sunny all year long.

The wet season is not like the monsoon season of Goa or Thailand, and a couple of hours of rain per day is about all you can expect, alongside around 8 hours a day of sunshine on average.

Rating:

Pricing and Value for Money

While we do think that the food and drink are a bit expensive at this beach club, we have to weigh up the lack of entrance fee and minimum spend, as well as things like the free access to the kids’ club.

That leaves us feeling that Locca Sea House is above average value for money, though it’s still not quite in the same league as the very best beach clubs around the world.

For families seeking some quality time together and some enjoyable leisure time apart from each other, Locca Sea House is a great choice.

Rating:

Beach Access and Quality

This beach club is right on the beachfront in Jimbaran, and the sand here is a bit lacking and more rocky.

There’s also not a huge strip of beach, and while you can access it directly from the club, you may find it gets a little crowded at times.

The water in the ocean is beautiful, but we don’t recommend swimming in it due to the currents in this part of Bali.

There is no doubt, though, that you’re in the perfect spot for a glorious Balinese sunset, though you may need to move around in the venue a little to get the best view.

Rating:

Sustainability Practices

Locca Sea House has made some minor concessions to sustainability in interviews with the press, but it has published no firm commitments to the environment or community, and it has no sustainability reporting.

This beach club could do much better in this respect.

Rating:

Exclusive Perks for Guests

Everyone gets free use of the pool, the furniture and a towel at this beach club, which is about standard in Bali.

Families also get free use of the Kids’ Club, which is a nice additional perk that can really help to make the day go more smoothly for parents looking for a long, relaxing time in the sun.

Rating:

Safety and Security

There was no bag check on entry to this beach club, and we wish there had been. Bag checks are easy to implement, and they help to keep people safe all over the island by raising the bar for security measures.

However, there are enough security staff on hand to deal with most immediate issues before they might disturb other guests.

Rating:

Event Hosting Capabilities

Locca Sea House offers what it calls Banquetting services, which include a buffet of some description (lunch or dinner), pool access and some form of entertainment.

It feels very one-size-fits-all, and it’s probably best for casual birthday parties or corporate training events and that kind of thing, rather than for very special occasions such as pre- or post-weddings.

One thing we should note, though, is that this is one of the very few beach club venues that host actual weddings. Most do not.

We should also note that their cheapest packages start at 660,000 IDR (which is about $44 USD or $66 AUD) per guest. That’s a bit more expensive than some of the other options here on the island.

Rating:

Consistency of Experience

Our team has visited this beach club a few times and spoken to others who have done the same, and they all feel that the experience here is very consistent.

But in keeping with many other beach clubs, there’s no real push to keep improving the customer experience at this beach club.

Rating:

Additional Amenities and Facilities

They have most of the basic amenities that you would expect at a beach club at Locca Sea House, and if you should need anything more, you can find it within driving distance in Jimbaran or in nearby Uluwatu, Kuta, Legian or Denpasar.

Rating:

Summary

Our biggest issue with Locca Sea House is the big events. We cannot fathom how a business with a reputation for good times is happy to leave its customers high and dry without entertainment or refunds if things go wrong with an artist’s booking.

So, while we can happily recommend Locca Sea House for a family day out and, indeed, we think the onsite kids’ club is likely to be a real help to many holidaymakers seeking a bit of peace and quiet, we can’t recommend booking any kind of advance ticket for this beach club.

If you do book in advance, you should see the money you spend as a gamble, that may or may not pay off, and if it doesn’t, you won’t have your stakes returned.

FAQs

Can You Go Swimming At Locca Sea House?

Yes, you can go swimming at Locca Sea House. In fact, this venue has several pools that you may be able to use depending on your level of access.

There is a pair of pools that can be used inside the main beach club that are accessible to everyone, and in addition, there’s a private swimming pool in the VIP section.

When we visited Locca Sea House, we found the pool areas to be clean and well-maintained, and we don’t think you should have any hesitations about swimming in them.

You could also, in theory, opt to go swimming in the Indian Ocean, as there is beach access at this beach club.

We don’t recommend swimming in the sea in this area, though. In keeping with much of Bali’s South Coast, the currents can be wildly unpredictable and very powerful.

Even strong, experienced swimmers have been known to be dragged out to sea. There are also no lifeguards on the beach, whereas there are always lifeguards near the pool area.

What Is There To Do At Locca Sea House?

Locca Sea House is a beach club that aims to deliver family-friendly fun. You’re welcome to lounge around by the pool all day with friends, family or even a book for company.

You can eat and drink from the restaurant and bar throughout the venue. There is even a Kids Club for the little ones to enjoy.

However, except for on the occasion of specific ticket-only events, this is not a party venue or a place for wild days out. If you’re looking for young and beautiful people out for the time of their lives, FINNS Beach Club in Canggu is a much better bet.

Is Locca Sea House A Child-Friendly Venue?

Yes, Locca Sea House is a kid-friendly venue. In fact, children of all ages are welcome throughout the venue, and there are no adults-only zones.

There are some special amenities for kids to enjoy during the day, and you get access to Seahouse Playland, which is their onsite kids’ club, as part of access to this beach club.

When the children are not in the kids’ club, parents are expected to keep a careful watch over their kids, partly for their health and safety, even though the pools do have a lifeguard on duty at all times.

And partly, to ensure that your kids aren’t annoying other guests. We’ve never heard of parents being ejected from a beach club over their children’s behaviour in Bali, but anything’s possible, we guess.

Who Is The Owner Of Locca Sea House?

Locca Sea House’s ownership details are not in the public domain. We believe that they are owned by an Indonesian interest, but cannot demonstrate that this is the case conclusively.

Final Thoughts On The Review Of Locca Sea House

There are definitely upsides to spending time at Locca Sea House. It’s a good place for families seeking a nice day out by the sea. You can have a lot of fun at this place, and the meals and drinks are pretty good.

Our big issue with this beach club is not the day-to-day but the big events. When you charge large sums of money for tickets, you should either put on the event or refund the money taken.

When you don’t? It becomes impossible to trust you with large sums of money in the future. So, while we do recommend this beach club for a family day out, we absolutely do not recommend purchasing tickets for big-name artists at this place. You could end up losing hundreds of dollars.
