Dubai’s beach club scene is extremely varied, and while our team tends to focus their efforts on big names and parties where possible, sometimes, it’s nice to change things up a bit. With that in mind, we wanted to find a nice, wholesome, family-friendly beach club for our readers.

We asked around, and while there were several names in the hat for the best family-friendly place in the emirate, Riva kept coming up again and again.

So, the team grabbed their little ones, their buckets, their spades, sunscreen and sunhats and decided to get out and about on The Shoreline Palm to see if Riva Beach Club, Dubai, lives up to its billing, and this is what they discovered there.

Introduction – Getting To Riva Beach Club, Dubai

Getting to Dubai is super easy. The emirate’s oil wealth only lasted for a few years, but thanks to some far-sighted leadership, instead of squandering the cash, they invested in the city.

The airport was built first as a transport hub connecting Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and the Americas, and millions passed through on their way to somewhere else. But then, as Dubai rose from the desert sands in gleaming steel and glass, people began to stop passing through and start staying to see what the emirate had to offer.

Duty-free shopping and luxury 5-star hotels were the first treats in store, but over the years, Dubai’s leisure industry has progressed dramatically, and the beach club scene has become a big deal.

Fortunately, once you arrive in Dubai, you’ll probably be staying in Jumeirah because that’s where most of the tourist hotels are. So, you should be a short drive away from Riva Beach Club.

However, we should note that if you’re staying in Deira or further away from the beach club, the traffic here in rush hour can be very bad. We’d recommend giving yourself plenty of time for the journey.

Once you arrive, there is the obligatory valet parking for those who drive themselves, and if you come by taxi, you can be dropped off at the door. It’s just too hot to walk in the Dubai heat.

What’s Available At Riva Beach Club, Dubai?

Riva has several pools, including a children’s pool. It also offers beach access; however, be aware that you need a different day pass from the standard one to get beach access, and you do not get to redeem the whole value of the pass for food and drinks if you opt to use the beach.

That means you have to pay to get on the sand. Given that most beach clubs offer beach access as standard, this seems like an odd choice.

There are also bar and restaurant facilities at Riva Beach Club. This is not a party destination, but there is some relaxed social dining in the Lounge area in the evening.

Our Detailed Review Of Riva Beach Club, Dubai

We implement a consistent process to review each beach club, ensuring fair treatment for owners, management, and staff, and offering reviews in a standardised structure that simplifies venue comparisons.

The review procedure is as follows:

  • A review team is appointed to evaluate the venue. All members are required to visit the beach club, though they can do so separately and on different days.
  • At the venue, each reviewer fills out a scorecard, rating the club from 1 (lowest calibre) to 5 (highest calibre) across designated categories, while also noting their observations.
  • Once all scorecards are submitted, the team convenes to discuss their findings and finalise category scores.
  • A designated team member then drafts the review, incorporating the team’s consensus and scores, before it is uploaded to our website.

Reservation and Booking Process

It is at this point in most Dubai beach club reviews that we begin to bemoan the terrible implementation of Sevenrooms as a beach club booking system, but for once, we shall have to forego this pleasure as Riva Beach Club hasn’t bothered with a booking system at all.

Yes, in 2025, if you want to reserve a spot at this beach club, you will need to do so using their email address.

This is mind-bogglingly silly, and it seems so impossibly out of place in an emirate that is one of the most modern and luxurious places on the planet.

But that’s how it is. On the bright side, if you do pay a deposit, the entrance fee is fully redeemable as food and beverage credits if you want pool access.

However, if you want access to the beach, you get a 20% discount on food and beverages and lose the entrance fee. Making this the only beach club we can think of in Dubai, where they charge you to walk on the sand.

Rating:

Ambience and Atmosphere

One thing that’s likely to be a constant theme in this review is that Riva Beach Club is a bit on the underwhelming side.

Anywhere else on Earth, it might stick out, but in Dubai, it feels a bit dated, a bit behind the times and never quite on its A-game.

The ambience and atmosphere suffer from this aspect of Riva’s character; they’re OK, but they don’t stand out in any way. You’re not going to feel bad about going here; you’re just not going to feel much more than “not bad”.

Rating:

Location And Accessibility

This beach club is in Jumeriah, which is probably the most accessible part of Dubai for most people. That’s because it’s the main hotel district for tourists and visitors to the emirate.

So, assuming you are in Jumeriah, it’s a very easy place to get to, and if not, we’d recommend avoiding rush hour travel as the traffic can be a bit rough in Dubai at that time of day.

The club says that it is also fully wheelchair accessible, but what that means, they haven’t spelled out, so we’d recommend that you call ahead and discuss your needs to be certain that they can be accommodated.

We would note, though, that the Google Maps listing for this place is a bit broken, and you may need to ask for directions when you are nearby.

Rating:

Aesthetic And Design

The aesthetic and design just aren’t particularly eye-catching in an emirate built on excess; this place just feels ordinary.

That is reflected in the pricing, which is more reasonable than at some of Dubai’s other beach clubs, but there’s no doubt that if you’re looking for a sense of occasion, you’re not likely to find it at Riva Beach Club.

This is a pleasant spot to while away the day, but it’s not a place to cram your Instagram feed with breathtaking photos of beautiful places.

Rating:

Staff Friendliness and Professionalism (Service Standard)

We found the staff to be the soul of friendliness and professionalism at this beach club, though one of our reviewers did mention that they are also a touch powerless to deal with the heavy smokers that throng on the beach at this club.

Overall, though, we felt that these guys are the usual mix of Dubai excellence, and even though the setting they work in is not the most polished in the emirate, there’s no doubt that they do an excellent job with what they have.

You’ll find they know the menu, the beach club and the locale very well and can offer tips and assistance as required.

Rating:

Service Speed and Efficiency

The service is generally very good, but there are moments when we felt that we were left waiting just a little longer than we needed to be.

Rating:

Food Quality and Variety

The food menu is decent, and the quality of the food is very good. It’s not quite as broad as at some beach clubs, but it will keep you happy enough as a family.

Rating:

Beverage Selection and Creativity

The drinks menu is good, though it’s definitely not as varied as it is at some of the best beach clubs in Dubai.

Rating:

Cleanliness and Hygiene

The facilities at this beach club are clean and pristine as we’d expect. Though the furniture and towels are a little shabby, they’re clean enough.

Rating:

Comfort of Seating and Lounging Areas

Things are a bit run-down here, and the beds feel dated and shabby compared to the offerings at other clubs.

They’re not uncomfortable, but given the money that you’re paying, you can get better places to sit at a beach club in Dubai.

However, as this club is very much family-focused, you could argue that by using run-down furnishings, towels, etc., they can afford to let kids play with these things harder than they might elsewhere.

Rating:

Music and Entertainment

There’s a little bit of music in the background, as this is pretty much mandatory at any beach club, but it’s certainly not the focus of time spent at Riva.

This is a place where people come with their kids to splash about in the pool, to wander on the beach and have a bit of fun; they don’t come to dance and party.

The score reflects that, and it doesn’t mean that Riva Beach Club is bad; it’s just not a place that you visit for music and entertainment.

Rating:

Seasonality

This is Dubai, and that means it’s going to be hot and sunny pretty much all year round. It rains so rarely in the emirate that it’s not something anyone needs to consider in their holiday planning.

And if you are unfortunate enough to be in Dubai when it rains, it won’t rain for very long, and then you’ll be back out in the sun.

In fact, rain is such a relative rarity that it’s actually quite a joyous event when it happens.

However, mainly it will be hot and sunny, and your biggest worry will be burning. Make sure to use lots of sunscreen and try and stick to the shade wherever possible; the heat in the UAE is no laughing matter.

Rating:

Pricing and Value for Money

While Riva Beach Club is a little cheaper than some other beach clubs in Dubai, there’s no doubt that it’s not great value for money even in a local context.

It’s cheaper because it’s clearly more downmarket than other beach clubs in the emirate. However, given that most beach clubs are not as family-friendly, you might decide to overlook that fact anyway.

But this is a global comparison site, and we can find much better family-friendly beach clubs around the world for less money.

Rating:

Beach Access and Quality

We find the fact that they charge for access to the beach really odd at Riva Beach Club. Dubai’s beaches are perfectly fine, but it’s rare for a beach club to ask you to pay to stand on the sand.

If you do opt to cough up the cash, you’ll be greeted with soft, powdery sand on reclaimed land as you find everywhere else, and yes, it’s clean and pleasant.

You can’t walk on it in bare feet, though, as the sun in Dubai is so strong that the sand can burn your soles.

You also probably don’t want to swim in the sea here, as the water’s not great, and there is a risk

Rating:

Sustainability Practices

The beach club itself makes no direct sustainability claims; however, they have made numerous indications in Dubai media that they take sustainability seriously.

It’s hard to measure this without proper reporting, though, and thus, we can’t award anything but the mid-mark on this.

In 2025, we’d like to see beach clubs taking the environment and the community they serve seriously, and while we feel Riva has made some steps in the right direction, they aren’t there yet.

Rating:

Exclusive Perks for Guests

You get a towel and a comfy daybed at Riva Beach Club, but we ought to stress that if you want to use the beach, you’re going to need to pay for these perks, whereas if you stick to the pool, they’re going to be free.

We find it hard to justify spending money on beach access in a place that’s literally made out of sand in the first place. If you want sand in Jumeriah, there’s plenty to be had for free.

Rating:

Safety and Security

Dubai is globally famous for its safe and secure nature. It’s one of the few places in the world where you can literally park a car, fill it with cash and then leave the doors unlocked and reasonably expect the money to still be there when you come back in a few hours time.

And that’s because everywhere takes security seriously. Your vehicle may be searched on the way into Riva, and your bags are subject to spot searches too.

Inside, because this is a family-friendly place, there’s a security presence that’s a little lighter than at the party-hard beach clubs, but we have no doubt that they can do the job if required to do so.

Rating:

Event Hosting Capabilities

There’s an emphasis on family event hosting at Riva rather than corporate things. Think children’s birthday parties and engagement dos rather than team building events and company meetings.

We think that’s the right focus for this family-friendly spot, as the majority of beach clubs can attend to the corporate market in Dubai, so why not offer something a bit different?

Rating:

Consistency of Experience

Our reviewers spoke to other customers and read countless online reviews to come to the conclusion that things can be a little hit and miss at Riva Beach Club.

Most of the time, they offer a consistently decent but not exceptional experience for families, but occasionally, they let small details slide, and it’s not quite as good.

Rating:

Additional Amenities and Facilities

There are all the amenities and facilities you can expect for a small, family-friendly beach club in Dubai, and if you need anything else, it won’t be a long drive to get it.

The Emirate has everything you need as long as you’re happy to pay for it.

Summary

It’s always good to see a beach club with a defined identity, and Riva knows what it’s about – family-friendly fun. So, if you want a day out with your kids, this is the place to come.

The flip side of that is that it’s not ideal for singles, childless couples, or big groups of friends; there are plenty of other beach clubs in Dubai for these groups, though, so it’s not a big deal when one beach club isn’t catering to them.

We like the shoreline dining experience here, and the vibe is relaxed and soothing. The kids love playing in the pool and with the other children that congregate here, and overall, Riva is a very good kid-friendly beach club in Dubai.

FAQs

Can You Go Swimming At Riva Beach Club, Dubai?

Yes! There are several temperature-controlled pools at this beach club. So, swimming at Riva Beach Club is easy.

It’s worth noting that this is a beach club with a dedicated swimming pool for children, which is a really nice touch for a family day out, and, of course, there’s a lifeguard on duty at all times.

Because this is a family-oriented place, there’s less drinking in the pool and more actual swimming, and we found it easy to swim at any time of the day.

Yes, people still jump in the pool to cool off at times, but overall, it’s one of the best beach clubs in Dubai if you want to swim and play in the water rather than just soak in it.

What Is There To Do At Riva Beach Club, Dubai?

You can eat, drink and relax at Riva Beach Club. You can also swim in the pools (and pool access is a standard part of the day pass); however, if you want beach access, you will need to take a different day pass, which is not fully redeemable for food and beverages.

This is an unusual “feature” of Riva Beach Club and makes it possibly the only beach club that we’ve encountered in Dubai where they charge you to access the sand.

We’re not sure it’s worth the fee. While the beach is nice (as are all beaches in Dubai), it’s reclaimed land, and the real star of the show here is the pool areas.

Is Riva Beach Club, Dubai, A Child-Friendly Venue?

Yes! Riva Beach Club in Dubai is one of the most child-friendly venues in all of the emirate’s beach club scene.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this beach club to a family seeking a wholesome day out in the Dubai heat.

However, while the beach club does have a children’s pool with a permanent lifeguard, we’d still recommend that you take personal responsibility for your children’s safety throughout the day.

You must also ensure that your kids are well-behaved and don’t annoy other beach club users.

Who Is The Owner Of Riva Beach Club, Dubai?

Riva Beach Club is owned by IFA Hotels and Resorts. This is an international hotel consortium based in Kuwait. It’s worth noting that the beach club has had some issues regarding beach access with Nakheel, the government-owned entity and one of the largest developers in Dubai.

Final Thoughts On The Review Of Riva Beach Club, Dubai

Riva is a thoroughly pleasant family day out beach club. It’s not the sort of place where you rock up with a bunch of mates and then get boisterously drunk, and that’s fine, Dubai has so many of those style beach clubs that you’re already spoiled for choice.

This is a place for chilling by the pool or on the beach, as your kids play enthusiastically with other children and splash about in the water. Then, you can enjoy some tasty treats and some pleasant drinks.

It excels at relaxed social dining, particularly in the lounge area after sunset, and it’s a pleasant change from the more hectic social scene in Dubai. Sometimes, you just want to kick back, and that’s exactly what Riva Beach Club is for.
