If there was a place we heard more about before we came to Tulum than the “Be Tulum Beach Club”, we don’t know what it was.
Of course, it’s not actually called that; it’s the Mare’zia Beach Club and that nobody seemed to know that was a little bit puzzling to our review team.
However, they weren’t going to let a misnomer put them off from visiting this iconic beachfront location in Mexico, and they were swiftly packing their pens, paper and bikinis for a day out at Mare’zia Beach Club, and this is what they discovered there on your behalf.

Mare’zia offers booking through the OpenTable service. While this is better than nothing, it’s not great. The use of this provider means leaving the club’s website and visiting another, which adds security risks.
And once you get there, you can’t pick a seat; it doesn’t explain whether or not you need a day pass or a minimum spend. And it tries to bully you into making the reservation within 5 minutes.
Overall, it’s not a great experience, and really in 2026, we just don’t feel that there’s any excuse for this kind of booking system. They can and should do better.

This is an open-air, refined and upmarket, slow-paced beach club with a very definite coastal vibe to it. While they do occasionally have live music, really the aim here is relaxation, and they do it very well.
It’s very serene and calming, and much different from some of the beach clubs in the more hectic parts of the hotel zone.
Location And Accessibility
Tulum itself is easy enough to get to from most of the Americas (though flights may be long and changes required depending on where you’re coming from) and more challenging from the rest of the world.
The beach club is in the hotel strip, which is outside of town and requires transportation to and from at the end of the night. We must stress that the hotel strip is not safe to walk around alone at night.
Aesthetic And Design
The design here is all about natural integration and open-air layouts. They have some pleasant water elements, including a pool in the sand, which helps to transition the beach and jungle sides of things.
Like nearly every beach club in Tulum, everything is in Earth tones and designed to blend in rather than stand out. It looks good in Instagram photos, but once you’ve seen one beach club here, it gets harder to get excited about another one.
Staff Friendliness and Professionalism (Service Standard)
Our team had a couple of minor issues when it came to our online reservations; one of the problems with using an external service like OpenTable is that the venue has no control over booking information.
Ignoring that, the staff here are very friendly and professional, and we also found them to be among the most attentive groups of staff in Tulum.

We were impressed with the overall speed and efficiency of the service at Mare’zia Tulum. The staff seem to anticipate where they will be needed, which ensures a prompt start to every order.
And then the kitchen and bar staff seem to be on a mission to ensure that you get things as fast as is feasible, and that’s just fine by us.
Food Quality and Variety
We felt that the food was among the very best served by any beach club in Tulum and on a par with the best beach clubs internationally.
The gnocchi is superlatively good, and the guacamole is exactly what we’d hoped it would be. The ceviches are also excellent, and we love the bright coastal flavours they use.
Yes, it’s pricey, but for once, we feel that they keep the value in their offering by ensuring it’s a cut above the rest.
Beverage Selection and Creativity
The selection of beverages at Mare’zia is on the average side, but they are very refreshing and well-crafted, and the presentation of cocktails is first-rate.
However, as with all the beach clubs in Tulum, drinks are basically sold at Miami prices, and while we don’t feel ripped off, we think it would be stretching things to call it value for money.
Cleanliness and Hygiene
We don’t think people can relax properly unless a place is very clean and the staff at Mare’zia achieve this with aplomb.
Our team was particularly relieved to see how well they keep the beach clean even during the worst of the seaweed season; stinky seaweed would definitely have spoiled our impression of the food.
And every area of the beach club seems to receive regular attention from the staff to ensure it stays clean all the way through your visit.
Comfort of Seating and Lounging Areas
The day beds were nice enough, but not really anything to write home about. We felt that the cushioning was a little on the light side, which meant we had to move every now and again to get comfortable.
The open-air tables for dining are very nice, though, and we felt that they all gave the vibe of luxury.
Music and Entertainment
Music is mainly a background thing at Mare’zia, and there’s no real entertainment to speak of most nights. The coastal groove they create is a wonderful soundscape for supporting conversation.
On the weekends, though, they do have some live music, and it’s usually of a high standard, though it never turns into a party.
Seasonality
Tulum, in theory, has no real seasonality because it’s in the tropics and certainly, the beach clubs never close here.
However, unlike Bali, there are two seasons that interfere with the tropical peace in Tulum: the hurricane season and the seaweed season.
The former may or may not prove to be a bother on any given year, but if a hurricane makes landfall in Tulum, you will probably wish you were elsewhere.
The latter, however, runs for nearly 8 months of the year now, and while the beach club does keep the beach clean, swimming is unpleasant, and some other parts of Tulum stink to high heaven as it builds up.
Pricing and Value for Money
The pricing at Mare’zia Beach Club isn’t outrageous when compared to other beach clubs in Tulum, but the beach club economy here is so far detached from the Mexican location that it is expensive nonetheless.
Overall, it’s good value for money in the beach club context, but it’s still a pricey day out, and budget travellers will want to look elsewhere.
Beach Access and Quality
The beach is absolutely beautiful at Mare’zia and the sand is white and soft beneath your feet. The beach club staff works very hard to keep it clean too.
However, we can’t ignore the fact that the water is full of seaweed for 8 months and thus, very unpleasant to swim in for the majority of the year.

This is an environmentally conscious beach club (as you’d expect in Tulum) and they focus on local sourcing, conscious cuisine, low-impact design and eco-sensitive hospitality.
Their efforts in these areas are obvious and clear, but they still don’t publish a full environmental audit, which is a shame because we suspect they’d do pretty well in an audit.
Exclusive Perks for Guests
You get a daybed, a towel and a locker and not much more at this beach club. This is very much standard practice in the beach club industry, but we feel they’re missing out on the ability to offer an upgraded experience for extra money.
When people are on holiday, they don’t mind paying a little extra for a little extra pampering.
Safety and Security
This high-end beach club is very safe inside, and they have excellent security and CCTV coverage. We still wouldn’t leave anything valuable unattended, but it’s unlikely that if you did that it would get stolen.
However, as always with Tulum, the area outside this club is not particularly safe, and you should guard against petty theft all day long and never venture out alone at night.

They have a proper event hosting team on hand at Mare’zia Beach Club and regularly host holistic retreats, weddings and other events.
You can be certain that the catering will be excellent here, and as long as you have a party that can fit in one area or another, it’s going to be a great time for everyone who was invited.
Consistency of Experience
Our team went to Mare’zia on several occasions, spoke to other guests and then read through dozens of online reviews to come to the conclusion that this is a very consistent beach club experience and that you can expect to enjoy a first-rate time every time.
However, we can’t find any evidence of a culture of continuous improvement. We really like beach clubs to constantly reinvent themselves to ensure they stay at the cutting edge of delivering an amazing experience.
Additional Amenities and Facilities
There aren’t a whole host of facilities at this beach club; it’s very much a focused dining experience, and that means if you need anything else, you’re going to need transport given that the local area isn’t great for wandering about in.

Overall, we really enjoyed our time at this upmarket and chilled beach club. The first-rate food added a lot to the time we spent here, and we’d be keen to go back and eat there again.
Would we make a special trip to Tulum just for this beach club? No. But we would most certainly make a point of visiting the next time that we are passing through Tulum and we will be glad to do so.

Neither town is considered safer by the US State Department. However, if you examine the details carefully, Cancun has taken big steps to protect its hotel zone, whereas Tulum is lagging behind.
Thus, purse snatching, overcharging, snatch-and-grab thefts, and even occasional outbreaks of violence are probably more common in Tulum’s tourist areas than in Cancun’s.

The best advice anyone can give in Tulum, other than common sense safety tips that work the world over, is never walk around at night by yourself.
Even during the day, some parts of Tulum are not entirely safe. However, ruins, cenotes, etc. tend to be fine.
We would always recommend that you either travel in a group or have transportation arranged between your destinations. Always wait inside for your transport and don’t leave until it has arrived.
Are Beaches Swimmable In Tulum?
In general, the beach at Tulum is quite hospitable to swimmers. However, as with every beach in the world, there is always the possibility of riptides, so you should gauge your own ability before swimming.
In addition, you must obey the flag codes on the beach as well as follow any instructions regarding swimming from lifeguards or other authorities on the beach.
Finally, Tulum has a long seaweed season (nearly 8 months) where it can be safe to swim, but very unpleasant as the water is often full of the plant.
