Sanur is Bali’s famously quiet beach town. However, the town is growing fast, and we doubt that it will be all that quiet for much longer.
One indication of that is that the number of beach clubs in Sanur is rising, and Byrd House Beach Club is just such a facility.
To find out if it was going to break the peace or complement it, our review team headed to Byrd House, and this is what they found.
Introduction – Getting To Byrd House Beach Club
Getting to Bali might be super easy or a long-haul flight, depending on where you’re coming from. Folks hailing from Australia or Southeast Asia will enjoy a short hop to Denpasar International Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport).
However, those from Europe or North America are likely to have to deal with a much longer trip. The good news is that Bali is much cheaper than the popular European and American beach club destinations like Miami, Tulum, Mykonos, and Hvar.
That means most holidaymakers will find they can save the cost of their flights to Bali (or pay for a nice, luxurious upgrade to business class) in the overall cost of their holiday, including accommodation, beach club days, food, drink, etc.
Once you’re in Bali, Sanur is very close to the airport, and it’s also close to Denpasar (the capital city), as well as not being too far from the other main beach towns and Ubud, the central town which was popularised in Eat, Pray, Love.
However, Bali traffic being what it is, if you’re coming to Sanur from much further than Denpasar, you might want to consider staying (at least) overnight to spend more time having fun and less time in traffic.
The Byrd House Beach Club, when you arrive, has enough parking for most needs, and it’s no problem to have your ride-share driver (Grab or Gojek are the popular choices) drop you at the door.

We should also note that while the club is open from 6.30 a.m. to 11/11.30 p.m., they do not serve an all-day breakfast. Breakfast is only served until 10 a.m. each day.

What’s Available At Byrd House Beach Club?
This beach club is focused on family fun by the sea, and they have excellent facilities for people who want to play hard. They have a pool, watersports, a tennis court, as well as a kids’ club.
They also have the usual restaurant and bar with comfortable seating options, and if you have a sweet tooth, there’s an onsite patisserie (which we think is the only such facility in a beach club in Bali).
On top of this, Byrd House Beach Club also offers spa and wellness facilities, so if you’re not in the mood for running around or want to wind down after you’ve had a workout, you can do so in style.
Our Detailed Review Of Byrd House Beach Club
We employ a unified method to evaluate every beach club, ensuring just treatment for owners, management, and staff, and providing reviews in a consistent structure that makes venue comparisons straightforward.
The evaluation procedure is structured as follows:
- A review team is designated to assess the venue.
- All members are required to visit the beach club, though they may visit separately and not on the same day.
- At the venue, each reviewer fills out a scorecard, scoring the club from 1 (lowest rating) to 5 (highest rating) in specified categories, while also documenting their experiences.
- After all scorecards are completed, the team gathers to review their findings and agree on final category scores.
- A chosen team member then drafts the review, reflecting the group’s consensus and scores, before it is published on our website.
Reservation and Booking Process

You can use the club’s website to make a booking, but that’s about the best thing we can say about it, and really, it’s our biggest complaint about beach clubs in general, it’s 2025, there’s no excuse for bad booking systems anymore.
They’re not expensive to implement, and they lead to happier customers; they should be a no-brainer.
But this? It’s a glorified contact form. You can book, but you can’t choose where you want to sit. That means you and your family need to deal with the whims of your server on the day rather than staking out the best spot for you.
You have to wait until the beach club reviews the form and comes back to you, so don’t try and book immediately before you visit, or you could be completely out of luck.
And then, there’s the fact that you can’t make a deposit, which means there’s absolutely no reason that the beach club should hold your booking if you’re late. That could be a major downer given Bali’s traffic and the slightly remote location.
Ambience and Atmosphere
There’s a quiet hum of activity everywhere in this beach club, which is awesome if you like that and not always awesome if you just want to flop out on a daybed by the pool.
It’s down to the fact that this club is very much focused on families and a whole day of energetic fun, and while that’s not always our cup of tea, we think Byrd House should be congratulated for filling a gap in the market rather than trying to emulate other beach clubs.
If you have kids, then you’re going to find this is a very social experience with your children making new friends and, by proxy, introducing you to their parents, but if you’re a couple or a single without kids, you may find that it’s a bit lonely here.

Location And Accessibility
We really like Sanur, and it’s a spot that many of the team have used to get a bit of a break from the more hectic nature of Bali’s other beach towns.
However, there’s no doubt that the traffic out to this part of the island can be an absolute nightmare at times. Sitting in a car for 2 hours from Ubud to get to Sanur can put a bit of a downer on your day.
We’d also note that while the beach is lovely and the water is some of the best for swimming anywhere in Bali, this is the wrong side of the island for an amazing sunset view.
A lot of people come to this tropical paradise just for that view, and if you only go to one beach club, it ought to be in Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran, Pecatu or Uluwatu as they’re on the right side of the island for the best sunsets.
Aesthetic And Design
We found the design of this beach club to be quite charming, and it reflects the family-oriented vibe of the place. There are plenty of Balinese touches to the architecture, which is always nice.
The beachside area feels relaxed and chilled, and is made for long days in the sun with a cocktail.
The restaurants are upmarket but still chill, and there’s a lot of attention to detail in the small furnishings and even table coverings that other places in Bali might not attend to.
It also looks great in your Instagram feed. It’s not the most memorable beach club on the island but it’s definitely heading in the right direction.

Staff Friendliness and Professionalism (Service Standard)
One of Bali’s biggest draws for overseas visitors is its reputation for friendliness and warmth in the service sector.
The people of the island have a knack for making visitors feel both welcome and valued. The best beach clubs take this innate trait and polish it to deliver an incredible experience.
The Byrd House Beach Club isn’t quite up to the 5-star hotel standard, but it’s very good, and we thought the staff here were people that their employer could be proud of.
We were also pleasantly surprised by how well they understood the menu items and the local area, to be able to offer us some advice on things.
Service Speed and Efficiency
It’s not the fastest service in Bali, but it is very good and you certainly won’t be hanging around too long waiting for attention or to get your dinner and drinks.
The only thing we found a little bit annoying was the delay in getting our check at the end of our day. We really do like to be able to pay and go when we’re ready to leave.

Food Quality and Variety
There’s a great range of food here, and it’s family-friendly with plenty of kids’ options. We thought it was fairly priced and delicious, too.
They also offer plenty for those with special dietary considerations, such as vegan, vegetarian, and even gluten-free menus.
Beverage Selection and Creativity
The drink selection feels a little restrained, but to be fair, this is a family-oriented place and not a hardcore drinking destination.
The drinks we had were strong enough and presented beautifully enough to look good on our Instagram feeds.

Cleanliness and Hygiene
As a family-friendly venue, you can tell they take cleanliness seriously, and we found the pool, toilets, changing rooms, etc. to be very clean and well-maintained.
Comfort of Seating and Lounging Areas
The seating arrangements are pretty comfortable throughout this beach club, and given that there are lots of activities to do, you probably won’t spend all day in one place anyway.
They’re not quite THE MOST comfortable seats on the island, but they’re more than comfortable enough.

Music and Entertainment
It’s piped family-friendly music at this beach club, and that’s fine by us. No, it won’t make those seeking cutting-edge EDM overly happy, but everyone else will find it a pleasant enough backdrop for their day.
Seasonality
One of the big joys of Bali is that there’s no real seasonality. There’s a mandatory single day off for every business on the island – Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence – which falls in either March or April each year.
And then, the weather is hot, sunny and pleasant all year round. Yes, there is some rain in the “wet season” but we’re not talking about week or even month-long monsoons here; we’re talking a couple of hours a day at most and even in the wet season, they average 8 hours of sun a day!

Pricing and Value for Money
We think the pricing in this beach club is probably on the high side for Sanur, but we would also note that it’s very much in line with the middle of the range beach clubs on the island as a whole.
We also have to note that they provide an awful lot of value add here with the watersports, free towels, no minimum spend, no entrance fee, daybeds, etc., so we don’t feel that a slight premium on food and drink is unmerited.
Overall, this is excellent value for money for the family day out that it’s meant to be. Singles and childless couples may find that there are other ways they’d prefer to spend their money, though.
Beach Access and Quality
Sanur Beach is lovely, and there’s no doubt that the sand is clean here and the water is eminently swimmable (which is unusual for beaches in Bali).
You can walk right onto the sand from the beach club, and they will even lend you a towel for your swim.
However, there’s one drawback, it’s on the wrong side of the island for the sunset, and you can’t enjoy the magnificent sight of the sky ablaze in beautiful colour reflected in the water as the sun drops below the horizon.

Sustainability Practices
They do seem to be interested in sustainability at the Byrd House Beach Club and they’ve given many interviews on the use of sustainable, local products in both the kitchen and the spa.
As well as hinting at a deeper green agenda, sadly, they haven’t done a good job of documenting this on their website and nor do they publish a sustainability report.
We can understand that as a smaller beach club business, they may not be ready for this, but it’s something to aim for in the future.
Exclusive Perks for Guests
You get the use of a towel for the pool and a comfortable seat as well as access to the kids’ club, the watersports equipment and some of the other amenities for free.
As there’s no entrance fee and no minimum spend, we think that’s amazing, and while there’s no VIP tier of service available, overall, this is one of the best deals in Bali for perks.

Safety and Security
They have enough security presence in this venue that you know that they won’t have any real trouble, and if somebody should misbehave, it won’t be allowed to impact the people around them.
However, there’s no bag check on the door, and we firmly believe that these checks help to promote safety and security on the island as a whole.
Sure, Sanur’s not somewhere that you expect an incident, but why not help to ensure it stays that way?
Event Hosting Capabilities
They can host events at this beach club, particularly, they’re enthusiastic about weddings. But it’s not the biggest venue, and they don’t offer complete venue buyout services, just defined areas.
There is an events team on hand to help make customisations where necessary, which is a nice touch, but overall, this isn’t a venue that we’d take our biggest events to, and that’s no bad thing.

Consistency of Experience
We have been to this beach club on a few occasions now, every time we pass through Sanur, in fact. We’ve also spoken to many other regulars and reviewed the comments online by other customers.
We think it’s safe to say that the experience here is both reliable and consistent, but there has been little effort to take things to the next level.
We can understand that it’s nice to find your comfort zone and be good in it, but we’d like to see beach clubs pushing themselves to elevate the customer experience all the time, too.
Additional Amenities and Facilities
This is one of the best-equipped beach clubs in Bali, and while we might wish they also had a side of this club for partying, you can find a party elsewhere on the island easily enough.
But overall, almost everything you want is here, and if you do need something else, you can probably find it in a short driving distance away in Sanur or Denpasar.
Summary

FAQs
Can You Go Swimming At Byrd House Beach Club?
Yes, though we should note that the pool at Byrd House Beach Club is called a “splash pool”, which means it’s really for just getting wet and cooling off in the heat of the Bali day.
However, unlike at many other beach clubs in Bali, you can swim on Sanur Beach (and there is direct access to the beach at Byrd House), and the currents are so gentle that even small children can safely learn to swim here.
Overall, this is a real highlight of spending some time in Sanur, and it’s the reef that runs parallel to the beach that makes this unique situation possible.
What Is There To Do At Byrd House Beach Club?
Byrd House Beach Club is built with the idea of keeping families busy all day long and ensuring that they have a great time together.
You can feast and drink at the club’s restaurant and bar or just exercise your sweet tooth at the patisserie.
There are leisure facilities galore (though some of these facilities do require payment in addition to your other costs of spending time at Byrd House Beach Club).
And there’s an onsite spa and wellness facility (which also requires an additional payment) where you can get a great massage while soaking in the sun and the sound of the waves washing against the shore.
The only thing missing is a party focus, and you really can’t have everything.
Is Byrd House Beach Club A Child-Friendly Venue?
Yes, Byrd House Beach Club is one of the most child-friendly beach clubs on the island. Not only are there are a bunch of facilities which ought to delight most children, but they also have a kids’ club.
There’s a kids’ pool, games and supervised play out in the wild, a treehouse and even arts and crafts workshops. Best of all, this is included in the costs of spending time at Byrd House, and every child is welcome.
That means you don’t need to budget for the Kids’ Club when you visit this beach club, nor do you need to book in advance to get your kids a space at the club.
Who Is The Owner Of Byrd House Beach Club?
The exact ownership structure of this beach club is not in the public domain, though it is part of a locally owned company.
Final Thoughts On The Review Of Byrd House Beach Club
This beach club knows exactly what it wants to be, and it does a pretty good job of realising that identity too. It’s not a party haven, it’s a place where you can spend a day with your family and have fun and kick back when you want to as well.
If you’re in or around Sanur with kids, there’s absolutely no reason not to visit Byrd House Beach Club; you’re all going to have a great time there.
We’d also note that the food and drinks are pretty good, too. Our reviewers probably wouldn’t make a special trip to Sanur for this beach club, but that’s because we’re not really part of the target market for Byrd House.
If you are part of that market, we can completely understand why you’d go a bit out of your way to visit this place.
